These are devastating times: 1.75 billion people are desperately poor, 1 billion are hungry, millions are trafficked in slavery, and pandemic diseases are gouging entire nations. Every year nearly 2 million children are exploited in the global commercial sex trade. And in the 4-5 minutes it took you to read this post, almost ninety died of preventable diseases . More than half of all Africans do not have access to modern health facilities. As a result, 10 million of them die each year from diarrhoea, acute respiratory illness, malaria and measles. Many of those deaths could be prevented by one shot.
Yet in the midst of the wreakage, here we stand, the modern day version of the Jerusalem church. You, me, and our one-of-a-kind life times and once-in-history opportunity .
Ours is the wealthiest generation of the Christians ever. We are bright, educated, and experienced. We can travel the world in twenty four hours or send a message to someone at the other end of the world in a
And we have enough bedrooms to house the orphans. I once read this analysis in a book, now here's the math;
"There are 145 million orphans worldwide. Nearly 236 million people in the United States call themselves Christians. From a purely statistical standpoint, American Christians by themselves have the wherewithal to house every orphan" So the writer wrote.
But Of course, many people are not in the position to do so. They are elderly, infirm, unemployed or simply feel no call to adopt. Yet what if a small percentage of them did?? Hmmm, lets say 6 percent. If so we could provide loving homes for the 14.1 million children in the sub saharan africa who are orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.
Friend reading this,
The sole aim of this post is to get you thinking, open and espouse you to the bewildering truth that only a few dare to give a deep thought. Your outlook of the world shouldn't be the same anymore. Dare to see the seemingly inexhaustible needs of those around you -- the poor, the hungry, the homeless and make it a duty CONSCIOUSLY to stretch out a helping hand. I sit in the comfort of my dining area and as I express gratitude for the meal before me, my heart reaches out in solemn despair to the hundreds, perhaps millions who by reason of circumstances do not have the opportunity of having two-square meals every day.
So I wrap up with this;
You can't reach out to them due to certain reasons? You can voice a prayer from a deeply compassionate heart. You never know, your prayer might put a meal on the table of a displaced orphan. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT
